Are All Natural Health Supplements Worth Taking?

Despite the fact that the government spends trillion on health we seem to be sicker than ever. We get fatter but we aren’t as fit, and more and more of us get cancer than we used to a hundred years ago. Mainstream medicine isn’t working as well as it should, so the question arises about whether we should be taking all natural health supplements.

Now don’t get me wrong here, mainstream medicine has made some huge breakthroughs in the last 100 years too, just look at the cure rates for cancer. But despite the fact the cancer can be cured at a higher rate than ever before a higher percentage of us still seem to be getting it.

So although cure rates are better it’s about the incidence of disease. Mainstream medicine focuses on cure, but all natural health supplements and many other forms of natural and alternative medicine focus on prevention.

Of course there is plenty more that we can be doing to help prevent poor health. A good diet, rich in fresh fruit and vegetables and low in fats, particularly saturated fats, and low in salt and sugar is essential, as is regular exercise, but there is growing evidence that good dietary supplementation is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.

This is true for a variety of reasons. There is growing evidence that our horticultural practices of intensive monoculture farming are robbing the soil of the essential vitamins and minerals that our bodies need for optimum health. And if they aren’t in the soil they can’t be in the fruit and vegetables.

And the same problem arises with excessive use of fertilizers and I also wonder about GM foods too. There isn’t enough evidence but I don’t want to eat it.

But it is clear that there are so many natural substances that are found in a wide range of different natural products that we should be adding to our diet, but realistically can’t do so.

For example I have been reading today about some exciting new discoveries, curcumin and resveratrol. These are both naturally occurring substances that have been researched recently and found to have a wide range of health benefits. Both are showing very promising results against a range of different health problems , and if you’re interested in taking these you have good reason. But it’s extremely difficult to do so without taking high quality all natural dietary supplements which include both of these.
