Are You Depressed?

It is becoming more and more common to suffer from depression, and when you are someone who is trying to build a career and live a full life when it happens you are most likely going to need to get some help for it.

The very first symptoms usually involve such as having trouble sleeping and waking up in the middle of the night. There might be headaches involved and you could start to be afraid of not being able to fall asleep at night which will add to the stress you are already having.

A very common thing for someone who is suffering from depression is to lose interest in activities that he or she has been interested before. This means that if you have been an active golfer for all your life, you are not going to feel like teeing up anymore, but feel like giving up the hobby.

It is normal to be suffering from depression for a short time every time something radical happens in your life. If you lose a pet or fail in something that is important to you, you might feel depressed for a few weeks. Normally it is considered that depression that has endured less than two weeks is natural, and if the condition does not go away after a month, you re-evaluate your situation.

The treatments for depression are all meant for the long term cases. If you just had something radical changing in your life and are feeling depressed because of that, there is no reason to start taking the SSRI’s - selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors - for the condition, but instead try to live through the pain. If you still feel depressed after a month you should think again and possibly think about medication.

If you feel like you could be depressed it is a good idea to ask people close to you if they have noticed the same thing. If you get a positive answer it is a good idea to go see a doctor for further actions.
