I struggled with bloating most of my life. It was very discouraging and it made me feel as if there was something wrong with me. I finally got sick of it and decided to understand the causes of bloating so I could stop them.

If you are struggling with bloating, the tips below will absolutely help you:

1. Don’t drink any liquids with your meals. Sounds weird, doesn’t it? It took me a while to do this but now it comes naturally. Why does this work? Because when you drink and eat at the same time, you make your body secrete more gastric juice and release it into your stomach since your drink diluted the gastric juice. But the end result is that it causes gas, which is one of the direct causes of bloating. So, no sodas, juices, or water with your meals.

2. Always drink when you are NOT eating, or in between meals. Drink up to one half hour before your meals and no sooner than 60-90 minutes after eating. How easy and simple this is. And remember to drink enough so you do not get thirsty.

3. Never eat fruit or any other desert with your meal. If you can’t give up desert, then fine. Make sure you eat it at least one hour later. This way you avoid mixing sugar with your food which makes fermentation occur. When fermentation happens in your stomach gas is produced and gas is one of the major causes of bloating.

4. This is a big one: If you eat fruit, eat it all by itself. Do not mix it with any other food and wait at least 30 minutes before eating anything else. Same reasons as number 3: bad mixing leads to fermentation of the food in your stomach, etc.

5. And above all STOP OVEREATING. Do whatever it takes to make this happen.
