Quit smoking and you’ll notice a great improvement in your health, you’ll also notice a substantial upswing in your financial situation because smoking is an expensive habit. I’m certain there are many wonderful things you could do with the extra cash in your wallet, if you can’t think of any ask your family, they will have some good ideas.
In the beginning you’re enticed into having a few drags on a cigarette occasionally, but then, if you continue, the frequency increases as the nicotine addiction takes hold. Without realizing it, you can rapidly move from a few a week to a pack a week, then a pack a day and more. This becomes a very expensive habit and the cost continues to rise until you decide to quit smoking.
Right now, you can easily calculate the drain on your household budget by figuring out how many packs per day you smoke, multiplying that number by 365 and then dividing that number by 12. If you then multiply by the cost of a pack of cigarettes, that’s the monthly cost of your nicotine habit, which would fall to zero immediately when you quit smoking.
As an example, if you’re paying $3.58 a pack, which is low compared to some areas, and you smoke one pack a day, then your annual cost is $1,306.70. That’s an expensive habit.
If you smoke 2-3 packs a day and pay up to $5 a packet, you’re burning a huge hole in your income! That amounts to a staggering $3,650 to $5,475 a year! Stop smoking and over ten years you will have saved between $36,500 and $54,750… that’s a whole lot of money in anyones estimation, what a boost to your lifestyle!
Then there’s the hidden costs that you need to consider. The extra dental cleaning and dry cleaning that you have done to remove odors and stains from your clothes and teeth.
As a smoker you’re also slugged with higher insurance. This is passed on by health care providers to cover the large impact that smoking has on the nation’s economy.
Smoke in your car and you’ll get much less as a trade-in when you want to upgrade. Using the ploy of tossing your butts and cigarette ash out the window and not using the car’s ashtray won’t help, your vehicle will still be stained and stink of smoke. Not to mention the serious risk of grass fires that could be started by this stupid action. Also with more companies adopting no smoking policies, there’s the very real prospect of smokers being unemployed or having their income reduced unless they quit smoking.
We haven’t even factored in the health care costs associated with smoking yet. When you stop and think about the enormous health impact smoking has, the cost is even greater. Quit smoking for your and your loved ones health, but also to reduce your financial waste and put the money you’ve saved toward your lifelong dreams.
