Many people try long and hard to find a perfect ’soul mate’ or ‘date’ for themselves. Now, finding someone who you want to spend the rest of your life with is surely necessary, but what is more important is learning to love yourself. I am not asking you to become selfish and think only about yourself. But you must work to enhance your self-confidence and self-esteem. Several recent studies have pointed out that people with a higher self-confidence and self-esteem generally remain healthier than those who suffer from a low self-esteem.
How this relates to weight loss, you may wonder! Well, research has found out that people with a higher self-esteem seldom gain weight. On the other hand, people who are chronically stressed and depressed usually gain a lot of weight within a very short time. That is because people eat a lot more when under stress than during normal periods. This may not be true for everyone, but it is the usual trend!
A recent study done on a group of high school girls show how true the hypothesis is. The girls were asked to rate themselves on a scale from one to ten about how happy they feel. It was seen that within 2 years, those who rated themselves lower gained more weight as opposed to those who rated themselves higher.
From the studies, you can observe that how you feel have a direct relationship on how much you will weigh in the end. The happier you are, the less weight that you will gain.
It is important that you treat and pamper yourself from time to time. I am not asking you stop helping others and become self-centered. In fact, helping others is a good thing, but can you remember when was the last time you helped YOURSELF to something! Maybe you like to eat at a certain top restaurant. When was the last time you visited that restaurant? Maybe you love fishing. When was the last time you went for fishing? Maybe you love badminton, but have you ever played the game in the last few months?
Too many times, we wrap ourselves so much with the thoughts of others than we often forget about ourselves; we often forget that we too have a life of our own just like others, and it is important to help ourselves just as we help others!
Time, nowadays seems to be an extremely precious commodity. In fact these days we can never find enough time even for eating properly. We end up grabbing a “quick bite” from the fast food restaurants so that we can “save” those precious minutes. But when you stop to think about it, it is these “quick bites” junk foods that are the main reasons why so many people are obese today. So make a small change by finding some time to have a proper meal. If you do not learn to love yourself, who will?
