The company filed for bankruptcy in the early nineties. But come 1999, they reopened their doors, shifting their program to become an online meal delivery service. They expanded the program further in the early 2000s and made it possible for customers to do their ordering over the phone instead of just online.
NutriSystem then set its demographics to include older customers and males. This caused the program to be more popular and reach more people. The NutriSystem diet was renamed NutriSystem Advanced in 2008 and then the company started selling its weight management products through a partnership with QVC, television-marketing program that airs its 90-minute infomercials.
The company’s president was once quoted as saying that they would not use celebrities as endorsers since a weight gain in the celebrity’s part would be detrimental to the company.
