Wall Street’s got a weight loss plan? Haven’t they got other things to think about right now? Perhaps they’ve all been looking in the mirror and decided that a change of image might not be such a bad idea! Slim and lithe might do the public perception of the nation’s top bankers a bit of good - best to try and not look so well-off and well fed, perhaps.
Whatever the case, what we are witnessing is what happens when excess and greed gets out of hand. It has been allowed to go on for so long that the very survival of the ‘institution’ has been brought into question. It is not in a healthy state.
Weight gain is about excess and greed too. When we behave in an irresponsible or unconcerned way about what we eat and how much we eat, we too increase the risk of our health breaking down.
We all know that Wall Street is going to have to change if it wants to return to good health. It is going to have to behave in a different way in future. It’s going to have to learn new habits.
Only by learning new habits will the necessary changes be possible. It’s going to take a lot of hard work and perhaps some more concerned, independent and more vigilant regulation.
The same applies to us. Sometimes we need to be brought up short to realize the error of our ways - as in Wall Street. We all know in our heart of hearts that the bill for our excesses and our greed is going to have to be paid someday.
What has gone on in Wall Street has a positive point which all those who are overweight or obese would be wise to note. It is in fact a very clear prompt that sometimes change is not an option, it’s a necessity.
To ensure its survival Wall Street is going to have to change. If you are overweight or obese, your survival is in question too. Both are issues of health and survival. To make successful change the first thing that has to happen is that the behaviors that caused the problem or condition in the first place, need to be recognized and clearly understood. This is followed by a phase of learning new habits. It is not a case of trying to change or modify old behaviors, learning new habits is what needs to happen if effective long-lasting change is going to take place. It’s time to take action!
