Horsetail (Equisetum Arvense) is common in much of the temperate Northern Hemisphere. The name comes from the appearance of the mature plant that resembles a horse’s tail.
Horsetail Grass, an ancient perennial flowerless plant, is valued for the high silica content of its dried stems.
The high silica content makes it abrasive, and in the past it was used to polish metal and wood. Its common name, bottlebrush, indicates another of its uses.
