The main cause of any urinary tract infection is bacteria entering the urethra, and then multiplying. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of your body. The most common bacteria that cause a UTI is the Escherichia coli ( E Coli ) which normally lives in the colon.
