The Various Types of Acne

The word ‘acne’ involves similar feeling in everyone. People think about dirty looking, yellow and red pus filled pimples all over the face as if there is just one kind of acne. All kinds of acne affect a person in quite a similar way. But they are different from each other.

It is very important of understand the basic difference between the various types of acne because each type responds to a specific treatment. The knowledge of the various types will help to focus on the treatment rather that reaching for the latest anti acne treatment randomly.

Acne vulgaris, the most common cause of acne problems is in fact a group of a number of acne. The group has papules, nodules, cysts, blackheads, whiteheads and pustules. These are the nicer varieties of acne. Whiteheads erupt due to blockage in the pores. The white thing, which comes out when a blackhead is squeezed, is dead skin cells mixed with sebum. Black heads, on the other hand erupt because the pores are blocked but they are not totally blocked

Severe acne outbreaks

A severe acne outbreak scars a person in many ways. Individuals suffering from acne are not only victims of physical stress i.e. pain, discomfort, acne also cause scars, which cause emotional stress too. Acne is not to be taken lightly as the after effects are quite extensive. The most severe form of acne is the Acne conglobata. Acne conglobata affects the males more than the females.

There are many such lesions on the face this acne infection continues to increase and may take years to clear up. These are present all aver the body such as chest, back, upper arms, thighs, buttocks and face. Acne conglobata is mostly effects males in the age group of eighteen to thirty.

The women are affected by a variety of acne, which is different from the variety affecting the men. This type of acne is called Pyoderma faciale. It affects females in the age group of twenty to forty i.e. after they have completed their teens. It has also affected women who had luckily survived any acne eruption during their teens. This kind of acne leaves large nodules, sores and pustules on the face. The best thing about Pyoderma faciale is that it clears up in about a year as opposed to acne conglobata, which takes years to clear. But the damage to the skin done within this year is long lasting.
